Collective Intelligence is the New Measure of Smart

“Do you know your IQ, that little number that’s supposed to measure how smart you are? Forget it. Individual intelligence is old news, collective intelligence (CI) is the future.” I thought this was a very powerful point in the article, “Collective Intelligence is the New Measure of Smart.” We dwell on our own individual intelligence when, we as a whole, are better off collectively. When people put a bunch of information together, you get more out of it. For instance, in the article it says that individual intelligence is hard to measure. There are many debates about the IQ test and how people determine a person’s intelligence. These debates have to do with “racial bias, economic bias, the limited scope of what kinds of skills are tested, and how such tests are applied.” Since all people are different, I think that the IQ test is, in fact, very bias and shouldn’t be used to determine a person’s intelligence. With collective intelligence so many people are involved that a person’s IQ doesn’t matter so much.

The video that goes with the article, describes how the internet is an example of that collective intelligence. One example of this on the internet is Wikipedia where people come together and put information about a variety of subjects online. Though Wikipedia isn’t considered the most reliable source of information, it can still be trusted more than other sources because so many people put their input into it. What do you think about the subject of collective intelligence?

  1. I agree with your statement, "We dwell on our own individual intelligence when, we as a whole, are better off collectively." Many minds are always greater than one mind. It brings many different and better perspectives to the table. I am always willing to work with others or get the opinions of others because I know that I am only one person and that I don't have all the answers. There is always more to just one single thought.

  2. What I would like to see more of in this article is you stance on whether this is an effective mode of collaboration and what are the problems(if any)
